Due to the fast pace of the course, only adults (18 years and above) may enroll to take this course.
The Grade 9 Referee Course was designed to train adults to officiate younger youth recreational games. The course is extremely fast paced with little time to absorb the material. Students must be at least 18 years old to attend this course. Youth must take a Grade 8 course to become a referee.
For youths 14 and older, please review the Grade 8 Referee Course Program.
The Grade 9 Referee Course is an 8 hour course usually taught in two 4 hour sessions.
- The first session is a classroom session.
- The second session is a combination field and exam session.
Due to the speed at which the instructor must go through the material, it is highly recommended that students visit the USSF website and read the Laws of the Game prior to attending the course (Click here to access the USSF Laws of the Game Page).
In the first session, the instructor quickly goes through the Laws of the Game explaining the rules and providing practical knowledge and “how to” experience. Each student should bring a note pad and writing instruments to the classroom session.
The second session starts on the field. The instructor demonstrates the mechanics (signals) used by Referees and Assistant Referees. All students participate so each student should wear footwear suitable for walking on a field. At the completion of the field session, the students move to the classroom for the exam. The exam is a 50 question multiple choice test. Students need to obtain a 75% or better score to pass the test. Students that fail the exam may be able to arrange a make-up exam.
Students each receive a copy of the "Laws of the Game Made Easy" book.
SRS pays for the cost of the instructor, the books, and the room. Students are responsible for the cost their USSF registration. In 2012, the Grade 9 registration fee is $40.
At the start of the course, each student must provide a check made out to CNRA for the amount of the registration fee. These checks will be taken by the instructor to cover your registration fee. Only students passing the exam pay the registration fee. Checks will be returned for any student who does not pass the exam.
Students are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms and equipment. See the Uniforms Page for more information.
SRS is offering two Grade 9 Referee Courses for 2012. Click here to see the dates and locations of the course sessions.
