On January 7-8th, San Ramon Azuri 99 (U13 Girls) won the Palo Alto Winter Turf tournament. After winning the first three games of the tournament, Azuri 99 faced a very tough San Francisco Vikings Athena team in the finals on Sunday evening. Under the bright lights, Azuri 99 went down 1-0 early in the first half on a nice break away goal by Athena. Azuri recovered and went on the attack, but could not find the net in the first half, which ended with Azuri down by a goal. In the second half, Azuri kept up the attack with a furious volley of shots on goal, but was still not able to score as Athena put extra players on defense to preserve the win. But Azuri would not give up and the constant pressure finally paid off with a shot from behind the 18 that the Athena keeper could not stop. Minutes later, with their adrenaline up, Azuri resumed their attack and found the net for a last minute goal and a 2-1 victory. Congratulations Azuri 99!
